It is, it is, it is, it is, it is a marvelous thing…..

It’s almost Memorial Day.

I suppose I could have used the time this week to finish getting prepared for the weekend, but … instead …. a song.

Sing this briskly, and in the style and tune of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “I am the very model of a modern Major-General”

(My apologies. I just can’t help myself….)

I am the very model of a manic hostess at the lake
I’m finishing the list of things to do before I take a break
I have so much to do before our friends and families congregate
I hope I get it done before this week ends and it gets too late.

I’ve made the bed chart, menus and have organized the family’s bins
I’ve checked the bar and made quite sure we’ve vodka, rum and lot of gins
I’ve organized the lotions used to keep our skins from blistering
And made quite sure we’ve got the spray in case the bugs are in full swing
(oh please be sure we’ve got the spray in case the bugs are in full swing)
(oh please be sure we’ve got the spray in case the bugs are in full swing)
(oh please be sure we’ve got the spray in case the bugs are in full swing)

The water shoes are clean and hung and organized from large to small
I’ve rinsed the sand and sterilized them all with lots of pine(y) sol
I’ve organized the buoyant vests and scrubbed them very, very clean
So all will have a choice and there will never, ever be a scene

I know I have to make some food for breakfast, lunch and dinner too
Our guests will want to eat some brats, some crepes and maybe have a brew
I organized our games and bought new sippy cups to fill the drawer
I washed the stove, I cleaned the frig and even swept the kitchen floor
(we’re glad she washed the stove and that she even swept the kitchen floor)
(we’re glad she washed the stove and that she even swept the kitchen floor)
(we’re glad she washed the stove and that she even swept the kitchen floor)

My back is getting weary and it’s possible I’ve lost my mind
but stopping now to take a rest I’m singularly disinclined
In short, while there are things to bake
I can not take a coffee break
I am the very model of a manic hostess at the lake

(In short, while there are things to bake, she can not take a coffee break. We all think she’s a nut bag and a manic hostess at the lake)

If your family locks you away, I will take care of you. I love you.

      Why…what do you mean? (and…thank you….it’s very possible…)

But I am very happy to know that the first person who read my blog was ACTUALLY singing along with the lyrics. You were, weren’t you? Did you love the Pine(y) Sol?

Mr. H. says he would prefer hearing you sing this….
