My brothers are big men. I don’t just mean in size, they have big laughs, big personalities and big hearts.
They are mythic.
Here they are, with my lovely sister-in-law, Denise. Did I mention that they also have big heads? Ralph is leaning over the bench, Jim is sitting next to Denise (his wife).
The grand-kids just love them. Every square inch. Even the big heads.
The Saturday of the 4th of July weekend, my brother Ralph and his family were coming up to the house.
All of the kids were excited.
We were eating lunch by the lake and all of the kids had loaded up their plates and were enjoying good picnic food. No special recipes needed. All food is good in a picnic.
I completely forgot to put table cloths on the tables. The kids were too hungry to wait. You will just have to use your imagination and pretend there are darling table cloths under the plates.
Cooper ate quickly. Perhaps not efficiently.
While we were all still serving ourselves and eating, Cooper went to the side of the house and dragged a child sized adirondack chair over by the dock.
Smile Cooper. Uncle Ralph is almost here.
When Ralph finally arrived, he sat down next to Cooper. Neither of them talked. Men understand these things.
After about 15 minutes….”What’s up, Coop”.
All is right with the world.
