While I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, I turned around (metaphorically) and realized that my husband and I were grandparents! We were so excited to have babies and children in our life again. I fondly remembered the idyllic relationship I had with my grandparents and wanted my grandchildren to feel the same way about us!
But..things are different from 50 years ago.
I work full time and travel quite a bit, I live 2/1/2 hours from our nearest child or grandchild, I experience all the aches and pains women of a certain age experience. I took care of my parents in the last years of their lives and try ( oh I really do try) to stay connected, interested, healthy, aware and ….sane. Well if you are still reading this…you know what I am talking about.
So, I did what any self-respecting, boomer generation, newly-minted grandparent would do. I searched the web for grand-parenting tips … but not just grandparenting tips. I found lots of great ideas, and was eager to “practice” with my grandchildren.
I gathered all of these ideas, threw in a few of my own, and have come up with special days and special events and special times for our grand-kids, our family and for each other (not necessarily in that order).
I love the idea of themes, so am happy to begin sharing them with you. I am also looking for a community of women who can share this journey with me.
What will we do today? Let’s find out together….
