Cereal Killer?

Here’s the problem:  I have a wonderful antique Kellogg’s cereal rack.  It’s a great piece and has great sentimental value (it’s the first gift my husband ever gave me).  It hangs on the wall in the breakfast nook, and I have always kept it filled with cereal.  (The cereal was possibly stale – but the Kellogg labels looked great!!)

Fast forward to NINE grand-kids.   I would buy the variety pack of Kelloggs which included such (relatively) healthy choices as Corn Flakes, Special K and Raisin Bran.  Also included  …  Fruit Loops and Cocoa Krispies.   If you have kids around, you can guess how this story goes.

I just couldn’t find enough recipes to use up the leftover “good” cereal…..Plus…I thought it might be a good idea to see if I could find a healthy alternative.

The results….

Now the rack is filled with healthy(ish) alternatives….

I fill the boxes with my own bags of cereal.  (Since this was written, I now seal my cereal in Seal a Meal bags.  Keeps it fresher).

Make sure everyone knows what is in the box….

and then provide a guide so they know what to expect

Don’t judge…it works!!!  We re-use most of the boxes and the kids are always happy to help fill the bags.  They have even helped make up new kinds of cereals!!

Here is a template if you have an urge to do this yourself.

Cereal Box Templates

I use boxes ordered from U-Line (one of my favorite places to shop….again…no judging).  The boxes are 3 x 3 x 4.

Thanks. The kids really seem to get a kick out of it. Now that I seal the cereal with a food saver (sealer) I can get ahead of the visits…..Thanks for stopping by… Good luck on your site, I’ll be checking in!!!!
