They pile in the door (hugs and kisses), they drag in bags of goodies (hugs and kisses), they figure out where they are going to be sleeping (hugs and kisses), they shuffle bags around (you know what’s coming next, don’t you?)
After everyone is here, and hugs and kisses bestowed, I will find a place close to all the action but a little separate.
I close my eyes.
I soak in all the noise and confusion and I smile to hear all the conversations going on around me. Brothers regaling each other with whatever brothers regale each other with, sisters comparing notes on whatever sisters compare notes about, and cousins picking up conversations just exactly where they left them when they were last together.
Eventually I have to open my eyes, and that’s even better. Here is what I see:
