Twelve Drums of Yummies

A small pause.  Take a long breath so you can finish easily…

and now for the big finish….

On the twelfth Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me….Twelve Drums of Yummies.

You may notice that there are only three drums in the picture of twelve drums of yummies.   You may also have noticed that I am well into the 15th day of Christmas (if we use my original start date…which may or may not be relevant).

There is a reason.

There is a reason why “true love” stopped handing out birds and rings and started sending groups of people as gifts.

“True love” was tired.

“True love” was busy making cookies and decorating and buying and wrapping gifts for the rest of the family.

“True love” figured out, at around the Seventh Day of Christmas, that it’s hard to come up with multiple gift items.  At that same time, “True love” realized that he could hire people as gifts.  Perhaps he called a flash mob hotline.  Possibly there were hordes of lords and maid looking for work.  On the twelfth day, he may have just had to dial “1-800-rent a drummer”.

I didn’t figure this out until I was well into the eighth day of multiples.

And so, on this Twelfth … er Fifteenth Day of Christmas, I present 3 of the 12 drums of yummies.

You may notice that I am not including instructions on how to wrap paper around an oatmeal box, angle ribbon on the sides and apply wider ribbon to define the top and bottom.

I think I’ll hire someone to do that.

    Dear Grandmama,
I am in awe of you, and look forward to each post. When people I know compliment me on my creativity, I blush and say sweetly, thank you, but know in my heart that you are the Master. I found you as I was searching for “fairies” one day. My husband and I own a store where we sell outdoor furniture and a million other things. I am in charge of our miniature garden/ fairy area and am always on the lookout for new ideas. I so love your fairy house in your wall.
Often I see that your posts are downloaded at something like 2am. When do you rest, dear soul? Thank you so much for sharing yourself, your ideas, your posts, and your darling grandchildren with me. I look forward to your posts and am saving them as they appear. Happiest of New Year’s to all of your family
    Fondly, Patty

Dear Patty, Thank you so much for your sweet note. Mr. H. and I were dismantling Christmas this morning (we are going out of town), so I was feeling a little blue. What a lovely surprise to get your thoughtful note!! Of course, I generally only show the successes, and actually know that I am not especially masterful at any one thing (except cuttinng pineapples and mangoes. I admit to a certain mastery at tropical fruits).

Oh, the 2:00 a.m. thing. I really do sleep, but sometimes I get restless so get up, get some stuff done and then…well…usually I don’t do much until daylight. Sleep is something I am working on for the New Year. And…I’m happy to share my grandchildren. They are a delight and help me tap into my inner 8 year old.

I am intrigued by a store that sells a “million other things” so you may have to share your location so I can stop on by!! I love a million other things (I am a marketer’s dream).

Thank you for your friendship. I will keep you in mind as I slog through my blog. You made me smile.

Have a happy and healthy New Year filled with happy and fun…
